5. Homework β Chart Observation and Application¶
Skill level: Observation / Classification / Recognition (no chart interpretation yet β this course's earliest lessons build the discipline of knowing what kind of claim you're looking at before you ever apply one to a chart).
Exercise 5A β The GuαΉa Map. Make a three-column table headed Sattva / Rajas / Tamas. Under each, list what Chapter 1 assigns to it (its Εakti, its TrimΕ«rti function, what it produces). Leave space below each column β you will return and add the planets to these columns after Chapter 3. This table is the first entry in your Running Chart Lab notebook.
Exercise 5B β Open the Running Chart Lab. You will not analyze a real chart yet. Instead, on a fresh page titled "Running Chart Lab," write a single sentence stating the working assumption you now carry into every future chart: that the planets in it are conscious significators of a soul carrying karma. Date it. Everything you learn from Ch. 2 onward gets tested against this premise.

- If the grahas carry divine consciousness, how does that change the attitude you bring to reading a chart, compared to treating planets as physical bodies exerting forces?
- The chapter sets strict conditions on who may receive this knowledge (the sincere, the truthful, the reverent β not the scornful or deceitful). Why would a predictive science attach moral conditions to its transmission? What does this imply about the responsibility of the astrologer?
- The SΔαΉ khya scheme runs from one unmanifest source down to the five elements that compose the body. Where in this descent does your individual chart "live" β at the level of elements, of ahaαΉkΔra, of soul? Argue a position.
- Which of the source-classification statements in Β§5C above was hardest to classify, and why? What made the distinction unclear?
