Module Test: S01-M06 — Aspects of Signs and Planets (Ch. 9)

Module 6 is a single, dense lesson covering two parallel aspect systems. This test checks that the two systems are held separately, not blended into one.

Part 1 — Definitions and Terminology

  1. Define: Rashi Drishti, Graha Drishti, Paada.

Part 2 — Classification

  1. Classify Saturn's graduated aspect strength (full/¾/½/¼) on the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th houses counted from Saturn's own position.

Part 3 — Comparison

  1. Compare Rashi Drishti (sign aspect, Ch. 9 v.1–9) and Graha Drishti (planetary aspect, Ch. 9 v.10–15). Are they the same system restated, or two parallel systems? What does BPHS itself say about how they relate (v.16), and what does this course do with that open question?

Part 4 — Practical Application

  1. With Aries rising, Mercury and Mars sit in Taurus (a fixed sign). Using the sign-aspect rule (movable signs aspect all three fixed signs except the one immediately adjacent), state which three signs Mercury and Mars aspect, and name the one fixed sign they do not reach.

Part 5 — Correction of False Statements

For each statement, identify what is wrong and state the correct version with its source.

  1. "Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars aspect only their 'special' full-aspect houses (3rd/10th, 5th/9th, and 4th/8th respectively) — they have no influence on the 7th house at all."

Part 6 — Synthesis

  1. In one paragraph, explain why BPHS presents Rashi Drishti and Graha Drishti as two separate systems rather than one, and why this course does not invent its own priority rule for resolving cases where they might point in different directions. What does v.16 itself say, and where does this course send that open practical question?

Target: ~80% correct. This module test, together with Module 6's single lesson, determines readiness to continue to Module 7.

Part 1 — Definitions and Terminology

1. Rashi Drishti (sign aspect): the movable/fixed/dual triplicity-based full-aspect system (Ch. 9 v.1–9) — movable signs aspect fixed signs except the adjacent one, and vice versa; dual signs aspect other dual signs. Graha Drishti (planetary aspect): the house-count-based graduated aspect system (Ch. 9 v.10–16) — every planet aspects the 3rd/10th, 5th/9th, 4th/8th (at varying strength) and the 7th (normally full). Paada: the "foot/quarter" unit of graduated aspect strength (¼, ½, ¾, full) used for Saturn/Jupiter/Mars's special aspects. Source: Ch. 9 v.1–9, v.10–16.

Part 2 — Classification

2. Counting from Saturn's own position as the reference (1st house): 3rd house = full; 4th house = ½ (two feet); 5th house = ¼ (one foot); 7th house = ¾ (three feet). Source: Ch. 9 v.11–15.

Part 3 — Comparison

3. Two parallel systems, not the same one restated. Rashi Drishti is triplicity-based and full-aspect-only; Graha Drishti is house-count-based and graduated (¼ to full). BPHS's own v.16 states plainly that aspect "has been spoken of in two ways" without giving a priority or reconciliation rule for cases where the two might suggest different conclusions. This course does not invent a priority rule where BPHS gives none — it defers the practical reconciliation explicitly to Ch. 28 (Semester 2, Evaluation of Planetary Aspects). Part 4 — Practical Application

4. Mercury and Mars, sitting in Taurus (fixed), aspect the three movable signs: Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn — skipping Aries (the movable sign immediately adjacent to Taurus, the 12th sign from it). Source: Ch. 9 v.1–5, Notes worked example. ⚠ Naming Aries as one of the aspected signs is the error this question tests for — it is the excluded adjacent sign, not an aspected one.

Part 5 — Correction of False Statements

5. False. Per the graduated (paada) table (Ch. 9 v.11–15), Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars each aspect the 7th house too — at ¾, ½, and ¼ strength respectively — not zero. Their "special" houses simply receive their full aspect; the others are weaker, not absent. Source: Ch. 9 v.11–15.

Part 6 — Synthesis

6. No single correct wording — graded for citing v.16's own plain statement that aspect "has been spoken of in two ways" (not one system correcting or refining the other), and for correctly identifying that this course treats the priority question as genuinely open rather than guessing at a reconciliation rule the text doesn't give — deferring it explicitly to Ch. 28 (Semester 2, Evaluation of Planetary Aspects). A response that invents its own priority rule (e.g., "planetary aspect always overrides sign aspect") should be marked for revision.
