5. Homework β Chart Observation and Application¶
Skill level: Observation / Classification / Recognition β recognition and correct lookup, not memorization from a blank page.
Exercise 5A β The Master Correspondence Table. Combine every table from today's Guided Lesson Notes (Β§5.1β5.5) into one wide reference table, one row per planet: DhΔtu | Abode | Time-period | Taste | Tree | Season | Digbala direction. This becomes a standing lookup tool for the rest of the course β you will not need to re-derive this from the verse text again.
Exercise 5B β Cross-Check. Compare Venus's dhΔtu (v.31) against Venus's core signification from Lesson 2 (v.12β13). Are they the same claim in two places, or two different claims? Justify from the verse text. Then: which planets share a Digbala direction with another planet? What, if anything, do those paired planets have in common elsewhere in this lesson (taste, season, etc.)?
Exercise 5C β Your Own Chart. If you know your own chart, note which dhΔtu (bodily tissue) corresponds to your Ascendant lord. No interpretation of health implications yet β pure observation.
Exercise 5D β Running Chart Lab. No new entry required today β instead, review your Ch. 1 and Ch. 3 L1βL2 entries and confirm they're still consistent with what you've learned.
6. Reflection Questions¶
(For your journal. No single right answer.)
- This lesson is almost entirely lookup-table material. How does your study approach need to change for a "reference" lesson like this compared to an "argument" lesson like Ch. 1?
- The translator flags Digbala here as a preview, fully developed only in Ch. 29. Note one thing you're now curious about regarding how the "preview" version and the "full" version might differ.
- In one paragraph, explain why BPHS might introduce Digbala here in simplified form rather than waiting to teach it once, completely, in Ch. 29. What pedagogical or structural purpose might this serve?

Β§5A β The Master Correspondence Table
| Graha | DhΔtu | Abode | Time-period | Taste | Tree | Season | Digbala direction |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sun | Bones | Temple | Ayana | Pungent | Strong/stout | Grishma (summer) | South |
| Moon | Blood | Watery place | MuhΕ«rta | Saline | Milky | Varsha (monsoon) | North |
| Mars | Marrow | Place of fire | AhorΔtra | Bitter | Bitter (lemon-type) | Grishma (summer) | South |
| Mercury | Skin | Sport ground | αΉtu | Mixed | Fruitless | Sharad (autumn) | East |
| Jupiter | Fat | Treasury | MΔsa | Sweet | Fruitful | Hemanta (early winter) | East |
| Venus | Semen | Bedroom | PakαΉ£a | Sour | Floral | Vasanta (spring) | North |
| Saturn | Muscles | Filth-spot | VarαΉ£a | Astringent | Thorny/useless | Shishira (late winter) | West |
Β§5B β Cross-Check
- Same underlying claim in two places β v.12 ("Venus governs semen/potency") and v.31 (Venus = semen dhΔtu) are consistent, non-contradictory statements of the same signification from two different verse-groups within the same chapter β a good example of BPHS's own internal consistency (similar to the Ch. 2 PΕ«rαΉΔvatΔra cross-check found in Module 1).
- Sun & Mars share South (both Kshatriya-caste and both linked to Fire per L2's Notes); Mercury & Jupiter share East (no other single shared trait forces a pattern β Mercury is Rajasika/Vaishya, Jupiter is Sattvika/Brahmin, so the pairing is directional only); Moon & Venus share North (both female-classified per L2, both linked to Water per L2's Notes) β this pairing shows a real cross-lesson consistency worth noting in the Field Manual.
Next lesson: Ch. 3, verses 49β54 β Exaltation, Debilitation, and Mooltrikona. This is where the first real Chart Clinic (Stage 1, your own natal chart) activates.
