2. How Today's Lesson Fits Into Complete Chart Analysis¶
- Why this lesson matters: this is the practical payoff of the whole module โ a working reference for every ascendant a student (or future chart) might have. It is also Semester 1's capstone in the fullest sense: the outcome statement "explain the... role of every planet" is directly and completely satisfied by mastering this table for one's own ascendant.

4. While Reading, Focus On...¶
- Before you read, watch for: BPHS reasons out every ascendant's classification from the same four-tier framework (Lesson 1) โ the table below is not arbitrary; each entry has a traceable reason in the translator's Notes.
- Important terms: Maraka (killer planet โ a term used freely here, ahead of its dedicated chapter, Ch. 46), Raja Yoga.
- Passages likely to be difficult: several ascendants have a planet whose classification depends on a secondary condition ("if in conjunction with a malefic," "if related to a benefic") โ don't flatten these into unconditional statements.
- Key questions to hold: for your own ascendant, can you explain why each planet gets its stated classification, not just recite the answer?
- How this connects to earlier lessons: every single classification below is a direct application of Lesson 1's four-tier framework โ if a classification looks surprising, trace it back to that framework before assuming it's arbitrary.

5.1 The Twelve-Ascendant Reference Table (v.19โ44)¶
This is the table Lesson 1 was building toward โ every entry below is Lesson 1's four-tier framework worked out for one specific ascendant. Read it as a reference to consult repeatedly, not something to absorb in one pass. Explicitly stated in BPHS, condensed from the chapter's own ascendant-by-ascendant verses and Notes. "Benefic/Malefic" here means functional (chart-specific), not natural (Module 2) โ the two often differ. Find your own ascendant's row first; that's the one you'll return to most.

5.2 Why the Table Says What It Says โ Traced Examples¶
The table above can look like a list to memorize, but it isn't one โ every entry has a reason, and it's worth tracing a few before trusting the rest. Explicitly stated in BPHS, three worked reasoning chains (of many given in the chapter's Notes), tracing the table back to Lesson 1's framework:
- Cancer's Mars is the full Yoga Karaka because Mars rules the 5th (Trikona) and 10th (Kendra) for Cancer Ascendant โ the exact v.13 dual-lordship pattern from Lesson 1.
- Taurus's Jupiter is the most inauspicious planet because Jupiter rules the 8th and 11th houses โ both a Parashraya house (8th, the strongest/most significant of that tier per Lesson 1 ยง5.1) and a Trishadaya house (11th, the strongest of that tier) simultaneously.
- Capricorn's Venus is a "superior Yoga Karaka" alone (without needing a second planet) because Venus rules the 5th (Trikona) and 10th (Kendra) for Capricorn Ascendant โ again the v.13 pattern.
Once you've traced these three, the pattern generalizes: nearly every "surprising" classification (a natural malefic becoming a Yoga Karaka, a natural benefic becoming a killer) traces directly back to Lesson 1's four-tier framework once the specific house lordships for that ascendant are worked out. Nothing in this table is arbitrary or memorized without reason โ it is genuinely derived, and a student who understands Lesson 1 could, in principle, reconstruct this entire table from scratch for any ascendant.
5.3 A Verified Real Illustrative Chart โ Gemini Ascendant (v.26's Notes)¶
The chapter closes its reference table with something rarer than another rule โ an actual case. Translator commentary, a real, named example: the translator gives the horoscope of "Shri Jagpal Singh," a teacher and personal acquaintance, born 10/11-8-1940, 4:00 a.m. IST, near Hapur โ the same location used in Ch. 5's manual-calculation worked example (Module 4), suggesting the translator reused a familiar location for his own illustrative charts. The chart diagram (00056.jpeg) is verified directly against the EPUB โ genuine, matching the text's description. BPHS's own point: a conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in the 11th house (a Trishadaya house, with Saturn debilitated in Aries there) caused this individual โ described as gentle, cultured, and of good character โ to be wrongly arrested on suspicion of murder in 1992, illustrating how even a generally auspicious-seeming planetary combination (Jupiter, a trine lord for Gemini) can produce serious difficulty when placed in a Trishadaya house with additional affliction (Saturn's debilitation).
Notice what this example is really doing. Interpretation inferred from surrounding BPHS material: this example is used by the translator specifically to demonstrate that classification is not simply "good planet, good result" โ house placement, dignity, and Trishadaya taint all modify the outcome, exactly as Lesson 1's framework predicts. This is the book's own illustration, reported here as source content; it is not adopted into this course's own Reference Chart Library (that remains a separate, deliberate decision per the syllabus, not made here).
