5. Homework — Chart Observation and Application¶
Skill level: Classification and rule application — abstract in Exercise A, own chart in Exercise B.
Exercise A — Tier Classification and Combination (abstract, not tied to a real ascendant). For each hypothetical planet below, classify each house lordship into its tier (Kendra/Trikona/Trishadaya/Parashraya) and state the resulting functional classification:
- Planet W rules the 1st and 5th houses.
- Planet X rules the 6th and 8th houses.
- Planet Y rules the 2nd and 11th houses.
- Planet Z rules the 10th and 5th houses.
Exercise B — Apply to Your Own Chart. From your own D1 chart, identify your Ascendant lord and note both houses it rules (if it rules two signs) — record this accurately before classifying anything. Then:
- Classify each of those houses into its tier.
- Is your Ascendant lord, by this classification, a Yoga Karaka per v.13's dual-lordship rule? Why or why not?
Exercise C — Reasoning Check. A planet rules the 9th house (Trikona) and the 3rd house (Trishadaya) simultaneously. Does this single-planet combination qualify as the v.13 "Yoga Karaka by dual lordship" rule? Why or why not — what specific pairing does v.13 actually require?

- Module 2 taught natural benefic/malefic as if it were a fixed fact about each planet. Today's lesson complicates that considerably. Does this feel like a correction, or a natural deepening of something that was always incomplete?
- The 8th house gets special, repeated attention in this chapter (strongest Parashraya, "destroyer of the 9th"). Does this match or challenge any prior assumptions you had about the 8th house?
- In one short paragraph, explain how today's four-tier framework changes — or doesn't change — your understanding of Module 2's natural benefic/malefic classification.

Exercise A — Tier Classification and Combination
- Planet W: 1st = Kendra (and Ascendant-lord special case); 5th = Trikona. Simultaneously an angle-lord and trine-lord → Yoga Karaka (v.13).
- Planet X: 6th = Trishadaya (always inauspicious); 8th = Parashraya (association-based, but defaults inauspicious as the "destroyer of the 9th" per v.6–7's Notes, absent a trikona connection). Predominantly inauspicious — a double malefic-leaning combination.
- Planet Y: 2nd = Parashraya (association-based); 11th = Trishadaya, the strongest Trishadaya house. Predominantly inauspicious — the fixed Trishadaya malefic tendency is expected to dominate.
- Planet Z: 10th = Kendra; 5th = Trikona. Simultaneously an angle-lord and trine-lord → Yoga Karaka (v.13), same pattern as Planet W.
Exercise B — Apply to Your Own Chart
No fixed answer — self-recorded from your own chart. Self-check that you correctly identified your Ascendant lord's houses and their tiers before answering the Yoga Karaka question.
Exercise C — Reasoning Check
No. V.13 specifically requires one house from Kendra (angle: 1,4,7,10) and one from Trikona (trine: 5,9) — not Trikona and Trishadaya. A planet ruling the 9th (Trikona) and 3rd (Trishadaya) remains auspicious via the Trikona "always auspicious" rule (v.2) but does not qualify for v.13's specifically-defined Yoga Karaka elevation, which is reserved for the angle+trine dual-lordship pairing.
