๐ Lesson โ ๐ Workbook โ ๐ Application โ โ Quiz
5. Homework โ Chart Observation and Application¶
Skill level: Naming, classification, and source-location โ not construction (deferred to S3-M22).
Exercise 5A โ Match the Question to the Varga. For each question below, name the single most directly relevant Varga (per Ch. 8 v.1โ8) and cite chapter/verse: (1) "What is my overall physical constitution?" (2) "What is my relationship with my spouse like?" (3) "How much influence do I have with authority figures / in my career?" (4) "How strong or weak is a specific planet, generally?" (5) "What does my spiritual practice look like?"
Exercise 5B โ Construction Logic Check (conceptual, not computational). Without computing any actual chart, explain in your own words why the Drekkana's starting-point rule (own sign / 5th sign / 9th sign) echoes the trine (1-5-9) relationship rather than, say, the 1-4-7-10 (Kendra) relationship.
Exercise 5C โ Reasoning Check. If you were told a planet is exalted in its Rashi (D1) chart but debilitated in its Navamamsha (D9), what would Ch. 7 v.52โ53's auspicious-Varga rule say about the Navamamsha placement specifically โ regardless of the D1 result?
Exercise 5D โ Your Own Chart. If you know your own Navamamsha Ascendant or sign placements (from prior software-generated charts), note them here โ no interpretation required yet, this course hasn't taught Karakamsha (S3-M23).
Exercise 5E โ Build Your Own Reference Table. Using Lesson ยง5.2, write out all sixteen Vargas with name, division-count, and use, from memory, then check against the lesson. Then note which Varga you'd want to examine first for each of these questions: (a) "will I be recognized professionally," (b) "what is my relationship with my spouse like," (c) "how strong is a specific planet overall."
Chart Clinic. Lesson S01-M05-L03: The Sixteen Vargas โ A Conceptual Map โ Application โ Stage 1, light: identifies which Varga (by name and use) is relevant to a specific chart question you already have, without requiring the Varga chart itself to be constructed.
6. Reflection Questions¶
(For your journal. No single right answer.)
- This lesson deliberately withholds full construction technique. Does knowing "what each Varga is for" without yet knowing "how to build it" feel like a satisfying stopping point, or does it feel incomplete? Notice your own reaction.
- BPHS presents sixteen separate lenses on one birth moment. How do you imagine reconciling sixteen potentially different-looking pictures into one coherent reading โ is that a question this lesson answers, or one still ahead?
- In one short paragraph, explain why BPHS might place the "use" statement for all sixteen Vargas in a separate chapter (Ch. 8) from the chapter that defines how to construct them (Ch. 7), rather than combining the two.
Check Answers โ Chart Observations & Application
ยง5A โ Match the Question to the Varga
- Lagna/Rashi (D1) โ Ch. 8 v.1.
- Navamamsha (D9) โ Ch. 8 v.3.
- Dasamamsha (D10) โ Ch. 8 v.3.
- Bhamsha (D27) โ Ch. 8 v.5 ("strength and weakness" is Bhamsha's specific stated use; Akshavedamsha/Shastiamsha's broader "all indications" would also touch this but Bhamsha is the direct match).
- Vimsamsha (D20) โ Ch. 8 v.4.
ยง5B โ Construction Logic Check
Accept any answer noting that 1st-5th-9th signs share the same triplicity/dhฤtu grouping (Ch. 4 v.5, Module 3) โ the same "signs of shared nature" logic BPHS reuses elsewhere โ whereas the 1-4-7-10 Kendra relationship marks angularity/structural prominence, a different kind of relationship entirely. The Drekkana's lordship rule (own/5th/9th) draws on the trine's "shared nature" logic rather than the Kendra's "angularity" logic.
ยง5C โ Reasoning Check
Per v.52โ53, the Navamamsha placement is judged on its own terms โ debilitated in the Navamamsha means that specific Varga's placement is inauspicious, regardless of the D1 exaltation. Each Varga's auspiciousness is assessed independently within that Varga.
Next lesson: house classification and the Vimshopaka Bala concept (Ch. 8 v.9โ43).
Chart Clinic¶
Chart used: my own natal chart Stage: 1 โ The Mirror, light. This lesson doesn't require constructing any Varga chart โ only identifying which Varga is relevant to a question you already have about your own life.
Step 0 โ Look Up¶
Pick one real, specific question you have about your own life (career recognition, a relationship, learning/education, spiritual practice, etc.).
Steps 1โ7 โ Full Reasoning Chain¶
| Step | Your entry |
|---|---|
| 1. Observation โ the specific question you picked | |
| 2. Relevant BPHS Principle โ which Varga (by name) BPHS assigns to this topic, and the exact verse (Ch. 8 v.1โ8) | |
| 3. Supporting Evidence โ if you already know your placement in that Varga (from prior software output), does it seem to align with what you know of your own life in that domain? | |
| 4. Contradicting Evidence โ actively look for it | |
| 5. Interpretation โ how much can you honestly conclude, given that you haven't yet learned this Varga's full interpretive method (sign/lord dignity within it, etc.)? | |
| 6. Confidence Level โ strong / probable / tentative / speculative (realistically: tentative, since only the Varga's identity and use are taught today, not its interpretation) | |
| 7. Reflection โ does knowing which Varga to consult for a question feel like real progress, even without yet knowing how to read it in depth? |
Source Citation¶
Cite the specific Ch. 8 verse (v.1โ8) matching your chosen Varga.
Self-Review Before Submitting¶
- The Varga chosen actually traces to BPHS's own stated use (Ch. 8 v.1โ8), not assumption or outside knowledge
- Confidence level honestly reflects that this lesson doesn't yet teach full Varga interpretation
- No conclusion overclaims what a bare Varga identification (without construction/interpretation training) can support
This is reviewed for: correct Varga-to-topic matching, honest acknowledgment of this lesson's limited scope, and no premature full interpretation of a Varga this course hasn't yet taught how to construct or read in depth.
