Understanding

"प्रबंधकम्" (5th house): the translator adopts "ability to manage affairs" (per one commentator's reading) alongside noting other writers translate it as "splendour of the intellect" — both are given in the Lesson's table since the verse pairs several terms. "मातुलान्तकशंकानां" (6th house): the translator adopts the single-compound reading ("doubt about maternal uncle's death") over treating it as two separate significations, per his own stated preference between two attested readings.
U2. Ch. 8 v.35 defines Trik-sthana as specifically the 6th, 8th, and 12th houses (with the 3rd and 11th classified as Upachaya instead). Ch. 13's Notes bracket "evil houses" as the broader 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th, and 12th. The underlying Sanskrit term ("त्रिकेशाद्यैः") includes "ādi" (etc.), suggesting the verse itself isn't offering one fixed, closed list — the five-house bracket looks like the translator's own interpretive expansion, not a restatement of Ch. 8's specific Trik-sthana definition. This course treats the two lists as distinct rather than silently reconciling them.
U3. It forward-references Avastha (a planet's state — youthful, old, asleep, dead, etc.), explicitly not taught until Ch. 47 — the translator's own Notes state this directly. The lesson leaves it untaught rather than folding in a quick explanation because Avastha is a substantial topic in its own right, with its own dedicated chapter; a shortcut summary here would risk exactly the kind of under-explained, load-bearing term this course tries to avoid.
U4. Accept any answer noting that a compact reference index (Ch. 13) serves a different purpose than a deep-dive chapter (Ch. 14 onward) — the index lets the reader see the whole map before Ch. 14–25 zoom into each house individually, keeping the "what does this house mean" question separate from the much longer "what specifically happens when X occupies this house" question.
