5. Homework โ Chart Observation and Application¶
Skill level: Applied reference use and reasoning trace โ the module's central practical exercise.
Exercise 5A โ Full Classification of Your Own Ascendant. Using Lesson ยง5.1's table: state your Ascendant sign; list every planet's classification (functional benefic, malefic, Yoga Karaka, Maraka, or neutral) for your Ascendant, with the exact BPHS verse citation; identify your own D1 chart's actual planetary placements and note which classified planets are strongly or weakly placed (sign dignity, from Module 2).
Exercise 5B โ Reasoning Trace. Pick one planet from Exercise 5A whose classification is a Yoga Karaka, Maraka, or otherwise non-obvious (a natural benefic turned malefic, or vice versa). Trace its classification back to Lesson 1's four-tier framework: which house(s) does it rule for your Ascendant, and which tier(s) do those houses belong to?
Exercise 5C โ A Second Ascendant. Repeat Exercise 5A and 5B for one other ascendant of your choice (not your own) โ this tests whether you can apply the framework generally, not just recall your own case.
Exercise 5D โ Full Table Recall. Without looking, write out the complete classification for 3 ascendants of your choice, then check against Lesson ยง5.1.
Chart Clinic. Lesson S01-M08-L02: Yoga Karakas by Ascendant โ The Twelve-Sign Reference โ Application โ Stage 1, the module's central test: verify your own ascendant's full classification against known life outcomes, especially any Yoga Karaka or Maraka dasha periods you can recall.
6. Reflection Questions¶
(For your journal. No single right answer.)
- Now that you've seen all twelve ascendants' classifications, does a pattern emerge in which planets tend to become Yoga Karakas most often (Mars, Saturn, Venus for Kendra+Trikona dual lords in specific sign arrangements)?
- How does knowing your own Maraka planet(s) change how you might think about future life planning, if at all โ and does BPHS's framework here feel deterministic or more like a probabilistic caution?
Chart Clinic¶
Chart used: my own natal chart Stage: 1 โ The Mirror. This is the module's central test โ house-lordship classification is a fixed, same-moment structural fact, and Yoga Karaka/Maraka dasha periods (once the student can recall them) are directly testable against known life history.
Step 0 โ Look Up¶
Using Lesson ยง5.1's table, find your own Ascendant's complete classification (benefics, malefics, Yoga Karaka(s), Maraka(s), neutral).
Steps 1โ7 โ Full Reasoning Chain¶
(Repeat for your Yoga Karaka planet and, separately, for your Maraka planet(s) โ two passes through the table if time allows.)
| Step | Your entry |
|---|---|
| 1. Observation โ your Yoga Karaka planet (or Maraka), its sign placement, and its dignity (Module 2) | |
| 2. Relevant BPHS Principle โ the exact Ch. 36 verse for your Ascendant | |
| 3. Supporting Evidence โ if you can recall roughly when this planet's dasha period occurred (even approximately), does that period's tone match a Yoga Karaka's (elevation, growth) or Maraka's (difficulty) expected effect? | |
| 4. Contradicting Evidence โ actively look for it | |
| 5. Interpretation โ your reasoned conclusion, given both 3 and 4, and given that this course hasn't yet taught Dasha timing in depth (Semester 3) โ treat any dasha-based reasoning as preliminary | |
| 6. Confidence Level โ strong / probable / tentative / speculative (cap below "strong" if you're relying on approximate dasha-period memory without formal Dasha training yet) | |
| 7. Reflection โ did tracing your own classification back to Lesson 1's four-tier framework (which houses your Yoga Karaka/Maraka rules) make the result feel more earned than simply looking up the table? |
Source Citation¶
Cite the exact Ch. 36 verse range for your Ascendant (see Lesson ยง5.1's table's "Verse" column).
Self-Review Before Submitting¶
- Every principle cited traces to today's actual assigned reading
- Contradicting evidence was genuinely sought, not skipped
- Confidence level honestly reflects that Dasha timing hasn't been formally taught yet (Semester 3) โ any dasha-period reasoning is preliminary, not a trained application
- No conclusion is stated more strongly than the evidence supports
This is reviewed for: correct classification and citation, a genuine reasoning trace to Lesson 1's framework, and honest, appropriately-capped confidence given how early in the course formal Dasha training still is.
