Module Chart Clinic: Module 2 — Planetary Characters and Description¶
Chapter covered: Ch. 3 ("Planetary Characters and Description"), all 74 verses, Lessons 1–6 Chart used: your own natal chart, Stage 1 (verification against known life history, not prediction)
1. Learning Purpose¶
Module 2 is the densest single-chapter module in Semester 1 — six lessons building the complete toolkit for describing one planet in isolation: its natural benefic/malefic status (L1), governance and identity (L2), physical/material correspondences (L3), dignity (L4), relationships and the Ratio of Effects (L5), and computed shadow points (L6). Each lesson's own Chart Clinic tested one factor at a time. This capstone asks you to run the same planet through every factor at once, the way a real chart reading actually layers them.
2. Concepts Being Tested¶
- Natural benefic/malefic classification, including the Moon's and Mercury's conditional status (L1, Ch. 3 v.11).
- Dignity: exaltation, Mooltrikona, own sign, debilitation (L4, Ch. 3 v.49–54).
- Compound (five-fold) relationship to its sign lord (L5, Ch. 3 v.55–58).
- The Ratio of Effects synthesis (L5, Ch. 3 v.59–60) — dignity checked first, relationship only as fallback.
- Not tested here: Upagrahas/Gulika/Pranapada (L6) — deliberately excluded, since L6's own Chart Clinic is scoped to calculation accuracy, not interpretation, and this capstone stays within Module 2's interpretable factors.
3. Guided Analysis Sequence¶
Pick one planet from your own chart — ideally your Ascendant lord, or a planet with a life-history association strong enough to test.
- Natural status (L1): Is it a natural benefic or malefic? If Moon or Mercury, apply the conditional rule precisely.
- Dignity (L4): Exalted / Mooltrikona / own sign / debilitated / neither? State the exact degree if you know it.
- Relationship (L5): If your planet's dignity result was "neither" in step 2, determine its compound relationship to its occupied sign's lord (natural + temporary → five-fold result).
- Ratio of Effects (L5): Apply the priority-ordered hierarchy from Lesson 5 §5.4 using steps 2–3's results. What percentage of auspicious/inauspicious effect does your planet produce?
- Governance check (L2): What does this planet signify, per its core Ch. 3 v.12–13 governance? Does the Ratio of Effects result plausibly track a known life outcome connected to that signification?
4. Questions¶
- For each of steps 1–4, cite the exact verse you used.
- Does the layered result (natural status + dignity + relationship + Ratio of Effects) feel consistent, or do different factors seem to pull in different directions? If they conflict, don't resolve it artificially — note the tension.
5. Expected Reasoning¶
Run the full seven-step Chart Clinic chain (Observation → Relevant BPHS Principle → Supporting Evidence → Contradicting Evidence → Interpretation → Confidence Level → Reflection) on the combined result from steps 1–4, exactly as each individual lesson's Chart Clinic already asked you to do for one factor at a time.
6. Answers / Model Reasoning¶
(Not provided — complete your own reasoning first, per the course's Application Rule. Self-check factual claims — verse citations, dignity ranges, relationship tables — against Lessons 1, 4, and 5's own Workbooks, §9 Check Answers and Explanations.)
7. Reflection / Error-Check¶
- Which single factor (natural status, dignity, relationship) had the most influence on your final Ratio of Effects result? Does that match what you expected before starting?
- Is your confidence level in this combined reading higher or lower than your confidence in any single lesson's isolated Chart Clinic? Why?
- Record this module's biggest insight in your personal Research Journal, and if it's genuinely new practical knowledge (not just a summary), consider a BPHS Field Manual entry citing this module.
