1. Learning Purpose

Module 4 is a single, reference-only lesson: the historical manual method for computing planetary positions, superseded in practice by modern astrological software but preserved here because BPHS teaches it and later chapters assume familiarity with the underlying units (ghati, pala, Ishta Kala). With only one lesson, there is no cross-lesson synthesis to build within the module itself — so this capstone points forward instead: it asks what this module's real lesson (how sensitive a chart's finer details are to birth-data precision) puts at stake in later Semester 1 work that depends on exact timing, not backward at the lesson's own Chart Clinic again.

2. Concepts Being Tested

  • The manual calculation procedure and its unit system (ghati/pala), per Ch. 5's worked example.
  • Recognition that this method's outputs (planetary longitudes) are exactly what modern software gives you directly — the technique is historical/reference, not a live requirement for chart-reading going forward.
