Module Chart Clinic: Module 8 — Yoga Karakas (Semester 1 Capstone)

1. Learning Purpose

Module 8 is Semester 1's own capstone — the outcome statement "explain the basic nature, function, condition, and role of every planet in a D1 chart" is fully and directly tested here, using your own Ascendant's complete functional classification. This capstone doesn't just extend L1–L2's Chart Clinics; it asks you to draw together the entire semester: natural benefic/malefic status (Module 2), dignity and relationship (Module 2), sign nature (Module 3), house classification (Module 5), aspects (Module 6), and house judgment (Module 7) — read through the lens of one planet's full functional role for your Ascendant.

2. Concepts Being Tested

  • The four-tier house-lordship framework (L1, Ch. 36 v.1–17): which houses make a planet a Yoga Karaka, Maraka, or neutral.
  • The complete twelve-ascendant reference table, applied to your own Ascendant (L2, Ch. 36 v.18–46).
  • Integration: how natural benefic/malefic status (Module 2, natural) differs from and interacts with functional benefic/malefic status (today).

3. Guided Analysis Sequence

  1. State your Ascendant's complete classification from L2's table: functional benefics, malefics, Yoga Karaka(s), Maraka(s), neutral planet(s), with verse citation.
  2. Pick your chart's Yoga Karaka (if your Ascendant has one) or otherwise your most functionally significant planet. State its natural benefic/malefic status from Module 2 (Ch. 3 v.11) alongside its functional status from today. Do they agree or differ?
  3. Trace the reasoning. Which houses does this planet rule for your Ascendant, and which tier(s) (per L1's four-tier framework) do those houses belong to? Reconstruct why it earned its classification — don't just cite the table.
  4. Layer in dignity and relationship (Module 2, L4–L5): what is this planet's dignity and compound relationship in your actual chart? Does a strong Yoga Karaka in a weak dignity still read as favorable, per everything you've learned this semester?
  5. Test against known outcome, including — if you know it — whether this planet's dasha period (even without having studied Dashas yet) coincided with anything notable in your life. This is a preview, not a technique this course has taught yet; note it as informal, not a formal test.

4. Questions

  • Cite the exact verse for every classification and rule used.
  • Semester 1's outcome statement asks you to "explain... the role of every planet." After this capstone, can you do that for your Ascendant lord specifically, in your own words, without notes?

5. Expected Reasoning

Full seven-step Chart Clinic chain (Observation → Relevant BPHS Principle → Supporting Evidence → Contradicting Evidence → Interpretation → Confidence Level → Reflection) on your chosen planet, integrating natural status, dignity, relationship, house classification, and functional classification into one coherent Interpretation step — this is the most demanding synthesis Semester 1 asks for.
